Toxins, Brain Chemistry, and Behavior

During the last two decades, evidence has accumulated that the interaction of environmental pollution, poor diet, and lifestyle contributes to the exceptionally high rates of violent crime in many American cities. Lead intoxication, even at low levels, correlates with aggressive behavior as well as learning disabilities. Manganese, a toxin that at high levels of exposure contributes to Parkinsonism, has also been linked to violent behavior (especially thanks to research by the Violence Research Foundation). The FDA's Latest Health-Harming Stance on Mercury

Federal health officials have refused to put new restrictions on the use of thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative, in vaccines and other medicines.

The Coalition for Mercury-free Drugs petitioned the FDA for tighter restrictions in 2004, citing evidence that the preservative could be linked to autism. In a reply made public only recently, the FDA rejected the petition.

The Coalition for Mercury-free Drugs currently plans to seek a court order that would force the FDA to remove thimerosal from all vaccines and medicines until it is demonstrated that the preservative is safe.

Thimerosal, which is about 50 percent mercury by weight, is used to kill microbes in vaccines. Since 2001, vaccines given to children 6 and younger have contained at most trace amounts of the preservative. It is still, however, present in some adult vaccines, including most doses of flu vaccine, and in some eye ointments, nasal sprays, and antivenins.

In related news, a government advisory panel has concluded that an FDA safety report suggesting that "silver" mercury amalgam fillings are safe was "unreasonable," and that further study was needed.

The safety report was deemed murky and misleading, and failed to answer concerns regarding why mercury was being used at all. Dental amalgam contains about 50 percent elemental mercury, and studies have shown that with time, mercury vapors leach out of the fillings and may be absorbed into the bloodstream.

Health and Parasites

In the world today so many people are sick from diseases that modern medicine does not seem to cure. Is it normal to have low energy, skin rashes, painful joints and bones? How many people around the globe are on medication with little or no change in their health? Could it be that the medical establishment has forgotten to look for worm and parasite infection in the human body? In recent studies taken at major hospitals over the last ten years, experts in this field have found that well over 95%of all people have parasitic animals living in them. Read more

Heavy Metals Can Taint Wine

(HealthDay News) -- The cardiac benefits of wine have been touted for years, but heavy metal contamination found in some European red and white wines could turn a health benefit into a hazard, British researchers report.

Heavy metals have been linked to neurological problems such as Parkinson's disease and may also increase oxidative stress, which can lead to chronic inflammatory disease and cancer, the researchers noted.

"We used literature reports of concentrations of metals in wines originating from 16 countries to determine the Target Hazard Quotients (THQ) for these wines," said lead researcher Declan Naughton, a professor of biomolecular sciences at Kingston University in South West London. "Many of the wines gave very high THQ values, which is concerning."

Among wines from Portugal, Austria, France, Spain, Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Serbia, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Jordan, Macedonia, Slovakia and Greece, only three countries had wines that posed no hazard from heavy metals.

Based on the wines analyzed, only those from Argentina, Brazil and Italy had THQ values that were below 1.0.

The report was published in the Oct. 30 online edition of Chemistry Central Journal.

For the study, Naughton and his colleague Andrea Petroczi used the THQ, a formula developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to look for seven heavy metals in wines. These included vanadium, copper, manganese, nickel, zinc, chromium and lead.

Naughton and Petroczi found that most wines had THQ values much higher than 1.0. In fact, THQ values typically ranged from 50 to 200. Red and white wines from Hungary and Slovakia reached THQ levels of 300.

"For consumption of 250 mL (8.5 oz.) daily, these wines give very high THQ values and may present detrimental health concerns through a lifetime," Naughton said.

Because heavy metals can pose a health threat, Naughton and Petroczi recommend that levels of metal ions should appear on wine labels. "This would help inform customer choice," Naughton said. "In addition, where necessary, further steps should be introduced to remove key hazardous metal ions during wine production."

No wines from the United States were included in the study, so it is not possible to tell the heavy metal content of wines produced in this country. One critic of the study does not think U.S. wines contain dangerous levels of heavy metals.

"The U.S. [Alcohol and Tobacco] Tax and Trade Bureau routinely performs market basket surveys in the U.S. to test wine and alcohol for a number of components, including heavy metals," explained Gladys Horiuchi, communications manager at the Wine Institute of California.

Joan R. Davenport, a professor of soil science in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at Washington State University, thinks a lot more study needs to be done to figure out how these heavy metals are ending up in wine.

"Knowing what I know about not only growing wine grapes but the whole process of turning them into wine and looking at some of the countries where these wines came from, it makes me wonder what may happen in the processing," Davenport said.

A lot of the heavy metals found in the wines in the study, exist in only very small quantities in soil, Davenport said. "The likelihood of that being in the grapes isn't very likely," she said. The contamination could be coming from the metal barrels used in processing the wine, she added.

Davenport isn't worried that these metals are a health problem. "I'm not going to drink any less wine," she said. "Enjoy what you enjoy in moderation. But if you like only Hungarian wine, you might be in more trouble than if you like Argentinean wine."

Many stones will be seen in the toilet upon the first bowel movement after a liver cleanse. It may take several cleanses over a period of months to clear all of them out from the liver.

Following a liver cleanse, it is useful to have several coffee enemas to pull further toxins that are stored in the liver. Use organic coffee beans, and about a quart of coffee each time, retained for ten minutes.

Replace intestinal bacteria by taking acidophilus and soil-based organisms (SBO) for a week after a liver cleanse.

Best of Health!

Chelation Therapy

Here is occlusive coronary atherosclerosis. The coronary at the left is narrowed by 60 to 70%. The coronary at the right is even worse with evidence for previous thrombosis with organization of the thrombus and recanalization such that there are three small lumens remaining.

Atherosclerosis, or "hardening of the arteries", is the cause of two most deadly health problems Unfortunately, it begins quite early in life and continues relentlessly until circulation is so compromised that a heart attack or a stroke is almost certain. The process begins innocently enough, by formation of a small plaque on the wall of an artery. It attracts platelets that form a small blood clot. Later on, additional clotting elements increase the size of the clot. Eventually cholesterol and calcium get deposited into the growing plaque. Calcium completes this process, making the arteries "hard".

This is a normal coronary artery with no atherosclerosis and a wide lumen that can carry as much blood as the myocardium requires. Normally arteries have the ability to expand or contract, depending on the need of the body. But once the calcium is settled on the arterial walls, they become rigid, unable to either expand or contract. That’s where the expression "hardening of the arteries" comes from. The cells of the body require continuous blood supply in order to live. When it stops, most cells die within a few minutes. If this happens in the heart, the result is known as a heart attack. In the brain, it is called a stroke.

MAJOR SYMPTOMS Chest pain (angina) because of decreased circulation within the heart, memory loss, dizziness, poor balance from reduced blood flow to the brain, pain in the legs after walking which is relieved by rest.

TRADITIONAL – TREATMENT Hardening of the arteries is a systemic disease. In other words, it happens throughout the body, not just in one or 2 areas. If you understand this, you will realize that the current approach to treatment is crude, primitive and misguided. Some experts have compared it to putting a band-aid on a major injury.

When a surgeon performs a bypass surgery or an angioplasty, it does nothing to correct the widespread atherosclerosis already present in other parts of the body, such as brain, kidneys, lungs, legs and everywhere else. To complicate matters further, most of the arteries are very small. They are called capillaries, and they comprise the majority of the 40 to 60 thousand miles or arteries feeding the tissues of the body.

The diameter of a capillary is smaller than the size of a red blood cell. This is necessary for the exchange of oxygen and nutrients to take place. Obviously, these arteries can not be bypassed or surgically manipulated. Various medications used for "treatment" of heart disease are designed to deal only with the symptoms, not the real causes of the problem. Clearly, the real treatment for atherosclerosis would be a procedure that removes the plaques from the arteries and restores blood flow all over the body, in large arteries as well as small ones. And this brings us to

CHELATION – THERAPY
Chelation Therapy is probably one of the most effective treatments for hardening of the arteries, yet it is being ignored and even maligned by mainstream medicine. Chelation therapy was used successfully in over 1 million clients over the last 40 plus years. The main ingredient of chelation therapy is a synthetic amino acid known as EDTA (ethylene-diamine-tetra-acetic acid). It has a peculiar ability to strongly attract minerals, especially toxic metals - lead, mercury, cadmium, aluminum and others. Since then, a number of studies published in reputable medical journals have confirmed the effectiveness of IV chelation therapy for treating atherosclerosis and improving blood flow to the heart, the legs and the brain.

101 Painless Ways to Detoxify Your Mind, Body, and Home

By Laura Milligan
Crash diets and certain fads that promise to give your body the detox treatment are not only harmful to your health, but they can leave you feeling cranky, irritable, exhausted and starving. There are some beneficial long term effects of detoxification, however, including a more focused mind, more energy, clearer skin and decreased chances of developing cancer and other chronic diseases. If you’re interested in detoxifying your entire mind, body and living spaces, but aren’t ready to starve yourself or cause yourself more stress on a crazy diet, use this list to incorporate 101 painless ways to get the results you want.

Bad Habits to Break
Hardcore smokers may not consider giving up their vice "painless," but there are alternative treatments that help you break these and other bad habits, freeing your body of harmful chemicals, slower metabolisms and inefficient digestive systems.

Smoking: Every time you smoke a cigarette, your body has to fight off harmful amounts of tar, smoke, nicotine, ammonia and carbon monoxide, as well as other toxins.

Alcohol: While some doctors and scientists argue that a low to moderate consumption of alcohol is beneficial to your health, alcoholic beverages put a lot of stress on your body, and are full of sugar and calories. If you drink even a little too much, you may notice differences in your digestion, headaches, nausea, sluggishness, and other toxic side effects.

Not getting enough sleep: Even though you’re not putting anything harmful in your body, not getting enough sleep can be harmful to you. Follow these tips to fall asleep faster and understand why sleep is so important.

Eating fast food and frozen food: Even if you think you’re getting a good meal from a frozen dinner, the important minerals and vitamins have probably been cooked out of the foods already. Fast food tends to have a lot of extra salt, fat and artificial flavoring, all of which add unnecessary toxins to your body and make you feel weighted down.

Short temper: If you’re constantly getting angry at people or suspecting them of cheating you out of something, your mind is never at peace. Learn to relax by learning to fix a short temper.
Over dieting: Though a good diet that’s free of fast food, junk food and too much alcohol is an important step in detoxifying your body and mind, over dieting can be harmful as well. If you’re depriving your body of nutrients or causing your body stress by binging and purging, you need to change your dieting habits.

Clutter: A cluttered home causes emotional stress. Increase productivity and give yourself a sense of calm by taking out the trash, cleaning the dishes and reducing clutter.
Being negative: Get rid of negative thoughts and feelings, and you’ll find that a life filled with feelings of gratitude, optimism and perspective will make you more successful and happy.

Caffeine addiction: Being addicted to caffeine can be a serious problem for some people: too much coffee affects sleep patterns, energy levels, social skills, concentration and focus, and job performance. Get tips for breaking the caffeine habit here.

Isolation: Taking time out for yourself is a good way to get centered, but spending too much time alone isn’t good for your spirit. Visit a neighbor or family member for a little social interaction, which will keep you from feeling depressed and lonely. Read more>>
