Toxins, Brain Chemistry, and Behavior

During the last two decades, evidence has accumulated that the interaction of environmental pollution, poor diet, and lifestyle contributes to the exceptionally high rates of violent crime in many American cities. Lead intoxication, even at low levels, correlates with aggressive behavior as well as learning disabilities. Manganese, a toxin that at high levels of exposure contributes to Parkinsonism, has also been linked to violent behavior (especially thanks to research by the Violence Research Foundation). Children's Bath Products Contain Contaminants

(HealthDay News) -- Many baby and child-care products contain the chemicals formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane, both of which have been linked to cancer and various skin conditions, a new report contends.

But the chemicals aren't listed on the labels of bubble bath, shampoo and other common products, according to the report from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetic Use.

"Companies can obviously do better, and we need to demand that they do better," said Stacy Malkan, co-founder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetic Use and co-author of the report, released Thursday. "Many companies are already making great products that don't have any of these chemicals [and] many companies in the natural products industry have reformulated to get rid of that problem. We also know many companies are using preservatives that don't use formaldehyde."

According to the authors, the report, called No More Toxic Tub, is the first to document contamination of children's products with these chemicals. The Environmental Working Group was involved in the analyses.

Both formaldehyde and dioxane are considered "contaminants," Malkan said.

A contaminant "is a chemical that is not intentionally added to the product but is a byproduct," she said. "Those are all exempt from labeling laws ... Companies don't even have to know themselves."

Dioxane is a byproduct of chemical processing and formaldehyde is released from some of the chemicals that are used as preservatives, Malkan said.

John Bailey is chief scientist for the Personal Care Products Council, a national trade association for the cosmetic and personal care products industry. Responding to the report, he said, "These are issues that have been around for many, many years, so it's not new news. The thing that impressed me was the low levels of dioxane that were found in these products, which indicates to me that the industry is doing its job in keeping this potential contaminant down to a low level."

Bailey also said there were wasn't enough information in the report to gauge how accurate the determinations of formaldehyde levels were.

Malkan and her co-authors tested 48 bubble baths, shampoos and other baby and children's products for dioxane and 28 of those products for formaldehyde. The testing was done by an independent laboratory, Analytical Sciences in Petulama, Calif.

Among their findings:

Almost two-thirds of the 28 products contained both chemicals, including Johnson's Baby Shampoo and Huggies Naturally Refreshing Cucumber & Green Tea Baby Wash.
Eighty-two percent of products tested contained formaldehyde; the highest levels were found in Baby Magic Baby Lotion.
American Girl shower products had the highest levels of dioxane among products tested.
"The good news is that there are great products without any of these chemicals," Malkan said. "The challenge is you have to do some research to find them. It's not a simple matter of looking at the label."

According to Malkan, the U.S. Department of Agriculture "organic seal" indicates that none of these chemicals are present.

"The best advice for consumers is that simple is better, products with fewer ingredients overall," she said. "There are things consumers can do to make better choices at the store but we also need to change regulations and require companies to list all ingredients in the products and to make the safest products they can, especially products for babies."

Harmful chemicals and contaminants in children's products is a subject of continuing controversy. Earlier this week, it was announced that baby bottles made with the controversial chemical bisphenol A (BPA) will no longer be sold in the United States by the six largest manufacturers of the products.

BPA, which is found in a wide range of products, mimics the hormone estrogen and may disrupt the body's endocrine system. The chemical poses a particular threat to fetuses, infants and children because it can interfere with cell function when their bodies are still developing, public health experts say. The chemical has been linked with diabetes, heart disease, cancer and developmental delays in children.

Many stones will be seen in the toilet upon the first bowel movement after a liver cleanse. It may take several cleanses over a period of months to clear all of them out from the liver.

Following a liver cleanse, it is useful to have several coffee enemas to pull further toxins that are stored in the liver. Use organic coffee beans, and about a quart of coffee each time, retained for ten minutes.

Replace intestinal bacteria by taking acidophilus and soil-based organisms (SBO) for a week after a liver cleanse.

Heavy Metal Detoxification For Your Autistic Child

Autism is a neurological brain disorder. It is often evident when a child does not hit his or her developmental milestones by age of three. The symptoms observered include a delay in speech, unable to interact socially and behavioral disturbances.

Some experts say that autism may be caused by a exposure. Mercury is known to cause neurological disorders as it mainly triggers brain dysfunction. Mercury is likely to be absorbed by the body if it is presented as ethyl mercury that are usually used in thimerosal, preservatives, and additives and even in pediatric vaccines.

Hence to get rid of the mercury, it appears that it is necessary to do a heavy metal detox or a mercury detox. Heavy metal detox is a process where chelating agents aid the body into excreting heavy metals by bonding with the toxic materials and make them less active. Heavy metal detox is in progress when hazardous metals are absorbed by the bloodstream and is excreted safely by the liver or kidney. Continue Reading >>

Chelation Therapy

Here is occlusive coronary atherosclerosis. The coronary at the left is narrowed by 60 to 70%. The coronary at the right is even worse with evidence for previous thrombosis with organization of the thrombus and recanalization such that there are three small lumens remaining.

Atherosclerosis, or "hardening of the arteries", is the cause of two most deadly health problems Unfortunately, it begins quite early in life and continues relentlessly until circulation is so compromised that a heart attack or a stroke is almost certain. The process begins innocently enough, by formation of a small plaque on the wall of an artery. It attracts platelets that form a small blood clot. Later on, additional clotting elements increase the size of the clot. Eventually cholesterol and calcium get deposited into the growing plaque. Calcium completes this process, making the arteries "hard".

This is a normal coronary artery with no atherosclerosis and a wide lumen that can carry as much blood as the myocardium requires. Normally arteries have the ability to expand or contract, depending on the need of the body. But once the calcium is settled on the arterial walls, they become rigid, unable to either expand or contract. That’s where the expression "hardening of the arteries" comes from. The cells of the body require continuous blood supply in order to live. When it stops, most cells die within a few minutes. If this happens in the heart, the result is known as a heart attack. In the brain, it is called a stroke.

MAJOR SYMPTOMS Chest pain (angina) because of decreased circulation within the heart, memory loss, dizziness, poor balance from reduced blood flow to the brain, pain in the legs after walking which is relieved by rest.

TRADITIONAL – TREATMENT Hardening of the arteries is a systemic disease. In other words, it happens throughout the body, not just in one or 2 areas. If you understand this, you will realize that the current approach to treatment is crude, primitive and misguided. Some experts have compared it to putting a band-aid on a major injury.

When a surgeon performs a bypass surgery or an angioplasty, it does nothing to correct the widespread atherosclerosis already present in other parts of the body, such as brain, kidneys, lungs, legs and everywhere else. To complicate matters further, most of the arteries are very small. They are called capillaries, and they comprise the majority of the 40 to 60 thousand miles or arteries feeding the tissues of the body.

The diameter of a capillary is smaller than the size of a red blood cell. This is necessary for the exchange of oxygen and nutrients to take place. Obviously, these arteries can not be bypassed or surgically manipulated. Various medications used for "treatment" of heart disease are designed to deal only with the symptoms, not the real causes of the problem. Clearly, the real treatment for atherosclerosis would be a procedure that removes the plaques from the arteries and restores blood flow all over the body, in large arteries as well as small ones. And this brings us to

CHELATION – THERAPY
Chelation Therapy is probably one of the most effective treatments for hardening of the arteries, yet it is being ignored and even maligned by mainstream medicine. Chelation therapy was used successfully in over 1 million clients over the last 40 plus years. The main ingredient of chelation therapy is a synthetic amino acid known as EDTA (ethylene-diamine-tetra-acetic acid). It has a peculiar ability to strongly attract minerals, especially toxic metals - lead, mercury, cadmium, aluminum and others. Since then, a number of studies published in reputable medical journals have confirmed the effectiveness of IV chelation therapy for treating atherosclerosis and improving blood flow to the heart, the legs and the brain.

101 Painless Ways to Detoxify Your Mind, Body, and Home

By Laura Milligan
Crash diets and certain fads that promise to give your body the detox treatment are not only harmful to your health, but they can leave you feeling cranky, irritable, exhausted and starving. There are some beneficial long term effects of detoxification, however, including a more focused mind, more energy, clearer skin and decreased chances of developing cancer and other chronic diseases. If you’re interested in detoxifying your entire mind, body and living spaces, but aren’t ready to starve yourself or cause yourself more stress on a crazy diet, use this list to incorporate 101 painless ways to get the results you want.

Bad Habits to Break
Hardcore smokers may not consider giving up their vice "painless," but there are alternative treatments that help you break these and other bad habits, freeing your body of harmful chemicals, slower metabolisms and inefficient digestive systems.

Smoking: Every time you smoke a cigarette, your body has to fight off harmful amounts of tar, smoke, nicotine, ammonia and carbon monoxide, as well as other toxins.

Alcohol: While some doctors and scientists argue that a low to moderate consumption of alcohol is beneficial to your health, alcoholic beverages put a lot of stress on your body, and are full of sugar and calories. If you drink even a little too much, you may notice differences in your digestion, headaches, nausea, sluggishness, and other toxic side effects.

Not getting enough sleep: Even though you’re not putting anything harmful in your body, not getting enough sleep can be harmful to you. Follow these tips to fall asleep faster and understand why sleep is so important.

Eating fast food and frozen food: Even if you think you’re getting a good meal from a frozen dinner, the important minerals and vitamins have probably been cooked out of the foods already. Fast food tends to have a lot of extra salt, fat and artificial flavoring, all of which add unnecessary toxins to your body and make you feel weighted down.

Short temper: If you’re constantly getting angry at people or suspecting them of cheating you out of something, your mind is never at peace. Learn to relax by learning to fix a short temper.
Over dieting: Though a good diet that’s free of fast food, junk food and too much alcohol is an important step in detoxifying your body and mind, over dieting can be harmful as well. If you’re depriving your body of nutrients or causing your body stress by binging and purging, you need to change your dieting habits.

Clutter: A cluttered home causes emotional stress. Increase productivity and give yourself a sense of calm by taking out the trash, cleaning the dishes and reducing clutter.
Being negative: Get rid of negative thoughts and feelings, and you’ll find that a life filled with feelings of gratitude, optimism and perspective will make you more successful and happy.

Caffeine addiction: Being addicted to caffeine can be a serious problem for some people: too much coffee affects sleep patterns, energy levels, social skills, concentration and focus, and job performance. Get tips for breaking the caffeine habit here.

Isolation: Taking time out for yourself is a good way to get centered, but spending too much time alone isn’t good for your spirit. Visit a neighbor or family member for a little social interaction, which will keep you from feeling depressed and lonely. Read more>>

Health Tip: Don't Overdo Fast Food

(HealthDay News) -- Fast food is a tempting option for hungry people on the run. But eating it too often or downing too much can wreak havoc on your health and waistline.

Keep these tips in mind when considering fast food, provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine:

  • Fast foods are often high in calories, fat, sugar and salt.

  • Many fast foods are cooked with high-calorie fats and butters.

  • Fast food choices tend to lack fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • The large portion sizes offered can encourage overeating.
